Every spring since 1905, the rowing clubs of Waseda and Keio, two of Japan's most prestigious universities, have competed on the Sumidagawa River. The regatta is now over a century old, and today it features a series of boat races. The main race consists of teams of nine rowers, all moving as one in order to be the first boat to cross the finish line 3,750 meters away. Another highlight is the magnificent display put on by the two universities' cheering squads. Spectators are welcome to view the races for free at various spots, including the finish area at Sakurabashi Bridge.
